Oatmeal for Breakfast
When I want to get a healthy start to my day, I eat a small bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. Oatmeal is so low-calorie (only 150 cals for a serving!), very filling, insanely cheap (a container of 30 servings is only $8 at my local grocery store! That’s breakfast for a month for only $8!), and has TONS of health benefits. It is high in fiber (which is why you feel full longer, because it absorbs water and takes longer to digest), lowers cholesterol, lowers blood pressure, and is a good source of protein and iron. Plus, it’s a wonderful canvas for creating unique, creative, delicious meals!
You can jazz up oatmeal with whatever your heart desires. Peanut butter. Jam. Maple syrup. Cream. Brown sugar. Toasted nuts. Fresh or dried fruit. The ideas are endless!
Lately, I’ve been enjoying my oatmeal with a little bit of almond extract (of course) and a couple spoonfuls of honey. Yum. Honey almond oatmeal. What could be better?
